When this post is published, Christmas will have just passed. One of the traditions in my family at Christmas is the food we enjoy. This isn’t just about Christmas Eve dinner but also the sweets we indulge in. One of our favourites to make is havregrynskugler, as they are called in Danish. These are oat chocolate balls. Despite the oats, they are by no means healthy, but they are absolutely delicious! I wanted to share the recipe with you because it’s really easy to make and requires no baking.

Ingredients:
250g oats
250g sugar
60g cacao
90g butter (Possibly more. See instructions below)
Rum and almond essence to taste
Please note that in the images, we made a double portion since we prepared them for both Christmas and New Year, as well as for the days in between.

Start by adding the oats, sugar, and cocoa into a bowl.

Next, add the butter. Begin with about 60 grams (or 120g for double portion).

Knead the mixture together with your hands. Add more butter and continue mixing until it forms a dough-like consistency.

Add the rum and almond essence to taste. You’ll need more almond essence than rum essence.

Once you’re satisfied with the flavour, roll the mixture into small balls.
Place them on a plate and leave them to dry for a day. This step ensures they won’t stick together when you store them in a container.
And that’s it! Enjoy your havregrynskugler! I hope you like this recipe and give it a try.
